Admob offers iPhone app developers networking opportunities Admob, the iPhone advertising network, has launched a new advertising initiative which could help developers get their applications promoted across the iPhone network.

In return for allowing Admob to display adverts on their application, Admob will promote the developer's app on other apps taking part in the cross promotion.

According to Techcrunch, developers also have the opportunity to decide on which is more important - having the application distributed or making money from it.

Currently there are more than 20,000 applications available for the iPhone, making it very difficult for new developers to get noticed. Admob's advertising network of more than 7.2 million iPhones could be the ideal solution for the overlooked developer.

The idea of cross-promoting applications comes from Facebook. In 2007, Facebook made it possible for developers to create applications which could run on the Facebook platform.

Suddenly a surge of 'zombie-biting' and 'sheep-throwing' related applications flooded the marketplace. Before long it became almost impossible for new developers to successfully promote a new application.

From here the idea of cross-promoting applications came about and a huge back-scratching network formed.

Now Admob believe they can use the idea to help new developers and at the same time grow their advertising network.

Of course, like most digital advertising platforms, Admob have been keen to introduce a quality score. The promotion of the application will depend a lot on a factor its calls 'installiness'.

'Installiness' refers to both downloads and usage after downloads, with the results forming the application's quality score algorithm. In essence, Admob don't want to promote poor quality applications.

The application exchange program will launch the end of this month and is open to any developer already within Admob's ad network.
