BBC in hot water over message board 'outing'

The BBC's Celebdaq message board yesterday carried a posting naming the Premiership footballer at the centre of a kiss-and-tell story.

Despite the player gaining an injunction last week preventing him being named, a posting was spotted on the site.

Celebdaq is a hugely popular BBC site that lets people buy virtual 'shares' in celebrities, in anticipation of a rise in profile of their chosen celeb.

Whilst the posting has now been removed, it once again opens up the question of legalities behind open message boards, especially when they are used as gossip-shops.

Friends Reunited was involved in a similar case last year when a disgruntled former pupil posted unsubstantiated claims on the site relating to a school teacher. The teacher brought a successful libel action.
