Social networking site Bebo's A Message from Earth project is set to become a television show that will follow the project's ongoing progress. Since the launch of the A Message from Earth programme, 350,000 visitors have made their way to the project's Bebo site, which has also received 10 million video views. The project involves Bebo members creating digital messages that will be broadcast into space - though only 500 will make the cut.
It's up to other Bebo users to decide which messages make it into outer space and the project has so far proved immensely popular. Celebrities such as Radio 1's Scott Milnes and pop music group McFly have added their own messages to the collection and encouraged Bebo members to take part too.
The last 500 messages are to be selected by September 30, when voting ends. Once the messages have been sent into space, Bebo will branch into television. The project's creator, Oli Madgett, said: "We are now working on developing the next stage of the project, both in terms of integrating brands, rolling out into other territories and launching a complementary TV proposition."
This bigmouth isn't quite sure if extra-terrestrial life forms will be that interested in meeting with brand names amongst the stars - it's a long way to travel for a can of Coke. However, it's one way for the project to continue further and will gain some revenue that will ensure its further development.
According to BrandRepublic.com, Bebo Europe's vice president said: "Today's youth audience is looking for ways to express itself and this project is allowing us a window into what people care about from lighthearted fun to the issues that really make people stop and think."
The television show doesn't have a formal release date yet, but can be expected any time from next month.
