15 November 2007Bigmouthmedia CEO Takes 'Entrepreneur of the Year' at National Business Awards 2007
Steve Leach, founder and CEO of bigmouthmedia, Europe's largest independent Search Marketing Agency, walked away with the coveted title of 'UK Entrepreneur of the Year' at last night's National Business Awards.
In light of recent contentious comments made by Jackie Stewart and Kelvin McKenzie suggesting that Scotland does not believe in entrepreneurialism, Steve commented: "Entrepreneurialism is alive and well in Scotland, and I think that it's insulting to suggest otherwise. Scots are ambitious, sociable and ballsy and that, combined with opportunity, is what it takes to succeed; unfortunately not everyone gets that all important break."
In a tough category, Steve beat off competition including Sean Phelan of Multimap, Karim Sekkat of KAS Technologies Group, Nicky Edmunds of Insideout and Dylan Thwaites of Latitude Group.
Speaking after the event, Steve said that he was delighted to have won the award not only on a personal level, but also on behalf of the bigmouthmedia team: "It has been an exciting evening and a thrill for bigmouthmedia to be a part of it for the second year running. We have had a fantastic year and it truly is a credit to all of the bigmouthmedia team across the globe that I work with every day in terms of their support and dedication."
The Entrepreneur of the Year award comes towards the close of what has been one of bigmouthmedia's most successful years to date, with the company forging ahead in the international digital marketing arena.
A true entrepreneur, Edinburgh born Steve raked up stints as a salesman, firefighter and commercial pilot before predicting massive growth in the fledgling
internet marketing sector which led to the creation of bigmouthmedia in 1997 with wife Heather Luscombe.
Originally launched as a three-person team in a basement office in Edinburgh, Steve now heads up the company's 13 offices and over 200 staff worldwide.
A bullish, humorous leader with superb vision, people skills and business acumen, Steve is a popular boss, reflected by the company's place in the FT's 2007 'Best Place to Work'. It was also named Media Business of the Year at the 2007 Fast Growth Business Awards, winning the Best
Search Engine Marketing Campaign at the inaugural Drum Awards for Digital Industries (DADI Awards) and earning a nomination as Media Agency of the Year IMA Awards.
