Pingdom have shown 71 per cent of web users update their browsers - with browser battlers Chrome and Firefox taking the update uptake lead while rival Internet Explorer flags behind.
The tech website found most web-users had switched on to the benefits of updating their browsers and were likely to proactively seek out updates or follow update prompts.
With 90 per cent of Chrome users running version 7 and 81 per cent of Firefox users running version 3.6, compared to just 60 per cent of Internet Explorer users running version 8, Pingdom's figures seem to show
Google and Mozilla have gained ground against Microsoft, despite
August browser figures indicating Firefox and Chrome seemed to be slipping to their Redmond rival.
The tech website explained that while Chrome has taken the lead in update uptake - and by no small margin - it is currently the only web browser to offer automated upgrades. And noting that while Microsoft seemed to be performing poorly, Pingdom speculated the hotly anticipated
release of browser-battling big gun Internet Explorer 9 could soon see the software giant return to strength.
However, established browser providers may be in stiff challenge as long-rumoured Facebook-friendly browser RockMelt just released an exclusive
beta version of its innovative interface on 7 November.
And while Chrome connects to a user's Google account and Firefox has an 'account manager' function, industry pundits are keen to see whether a Facebook-integrated RockMelt, based on Google's Chrome, could be the latest browser big shot.
