Online research group comScore has released the results of its latest review of internet usage behaviour in ten Asia-Pacific regions. The firm's World Metrix study showed that around 284 million people aged 15 and over used the internet from a home or work computer in the area in May.
The figure represents ten per cent of the total population of people aged 15-plus in the region.
As well as this, the average Asia-Pacific web user hooked up to the internet on 13.8 days in the month, spending 20.2 hours online and viewing 2,171 pages.
In comparison to the global average, Asia-Pacific PC-based internet usage statistics are pretty low, with figures recorded at 17.1 usage days per month, 25.2 hours per month, and 2,519 pages viewed per month for the rest of the world.
South Korea was the region with the largest rate of internet usage, with 65 per cent of the population online in May, followed by Australia (62 per cent) and New Zealand (60 per cent).
Bob Ivins, executive vice president of comScore, said: "We all know that the Asia-Pacific region is large and that internet usage is growing rapidly.
"What is fascinating about this study is that it allows us to compare internet usage across countries using a consistent measurement methodology and to then determine where PC-based internet engagement is most developed.
"We are looking forward to providing additional insight into the online dynamics of this important region in the future."
