E-mail on the beach

As many as 50% of e-mail users will sneak off to check their inbox while on holiday this year. New technology is making it even easier to stay connected when abroad, resulting in some people spending as much as half a day reading and replying to e-mails while supposedly getting away from it all.

Wouldn't catch me doing that I hear you cry! Unfortunately in this day and age ignoring your inbox for a week can easily mean you are greeted with upwards of 1000 e-mails on your return. A bit of a burden I'm sure you'll agree.

It's not just the missing legitimate e-mail that causes people to worry, it's ensuring the spam doesn't take you a week to delete on your return. Marketing campaigns account for around 30% of e-mail traffic and it is predicted that by 2005 the average user will be bombarded with over 600 spam messages everyday.

Looks like we'll all have to start taking more than just a towel to the beach in the coming years!
