Fast Search adds Automatic Language Mapping

Automatic Language Mapping - AlltheWeb now determines the country from which a user's query is originating and provides relevant results in the user's local language as well as in English. For example, if a user situated in Portugal searched on AlltheWeb, his results would be retrieved and displayed in Portuguese and English. Although the local language and English are provided as the default languages, users will still be able to override the default language by selecting from the 49 languages available through AlltheWeb's customized settings. This feature will be available for web search and news search.

Search Tools - To further simplify searches for AlltheWeb users, a variety of new search tools are now available for users to install into a number of common web browsers, all of which are described in AlltheWeb's Search Tools section located at (http://www.alltheweb.com / help / tools / ).

Once these search tools are enabled, AlltheWeb searches can be initiated from any site, by simply entering "atw" before the query terms in the browser's address bar. For example, users wishing to search for "New York" can retrieve highly relevant search results by simply typing "atw New York" into the address bar of supported Internet browsers, including Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape, Apple Sherlock 3, Mozilla, and Opera.

In addition, users wishing to execute a Web search query based on a term within a Web page can do so by highlighting the term and clicking on a new AlltheWeb button located in the links menu of the browser header.

Boolean Search - Advanced Search users will now be able to search AlltheWeb using Boolean operators. This includes full support for common Boolean operators ("and", "or", "andnot"). In addition, AlltheWeb offers a "rank" operator, allowing users to give preference to results that include a specified term.

Query Language Guide - AlltheWeb now includes a new query language "cheat sheet" located at (http://www.alltheweb.com / help / faqs / query_language.html) that will help users improve their search results through the use of advanced features such as "+" and "-", Boolean operators, and special query keywords such as "site:" and "filetype:".

"AlltheWeb has won high acclaim from key media and industry analysts, and has quickly become the default search engine of choice for millions of users simply by providing the freshest and most relevant results from one of the largest web indexes available," commented John M. Lervik, FAST's chief executive officer. "By adding these new advanced features, we are improving the search experience for our current users, while also attracting newer users to the single best site available on the Internet for detailed searches."

AlltheWeb delivers search results from the over 2.1 billion Web pages and integrates them with award-winning breaking news results from thousands of news sources and hundreds of millions of image, video, MP3, and software files, all within a single search result page. With advanced linguistics, categorization techniques, and support for 49 languages, AlltheWeb combines a high-quality, comprehensive, fresh, and fully integrated search resource with one of the largest news resources on the Internet.
