14 January 2003Fast and Elsevier deal
Search provider Fast Search & Transfer™ and Elsevier, leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, today announced a strategic, multi-faceted agreement between the companies to further deploy and license FAST Data Search™ within existing and new subsidiaries of Elsevier.
FAST Data Search, which offers companies fully scalable real-time search platform for both enterprise and Internet environments, will be deployed across a range of Elsevier properties, including Elsevier.com. The terms of this contract also includes a five-year, enterprise OEM licensing and software agreement for the deployment of FAST Data Search, as well as a Professional Services agreement, where FAST will provide full-time technical assistance to Elsevier in customizing the FAST Data Search platform to maximize information management solutions.
FAST Data Search already powers the search and retrieval capabilities of Elsevier's award winning Scirus.com site. Additionally FAST powers the EngineeringVillage2 platform for Elsevier Engineering Information, Inc. (Ei), providing online information to the engineering community.
"We have been very pleased with the results delivered by the powerful search and retrieval capabilities provided by FAST Data Search in our enterprise applications, such as the Ei and Scirus solutions," commented Tony Coorey, Chief Information Officer, Elsevier Science. "FAST Data Search was the only enterprise search solution that could provide us with a highly scalable solution for retrieving the most relevant and up-to-date information from our vast collection of scientific data, and dramatically improving the overall search experience for our end-users. It met or exceeded our requirements for sub-second query response, unlimited database size, flexibility, advanced linguistics capabilities and more. We look forward to continued success from existing and new deployments as our relationship with FAST strengthens."
FAST Data Search's scalability enables large companies such as Elsevier to keep up with the ever-expanding amount of content collected in their multiple data sources, regardless of location. FAST Data Search is solving the most difficult search and information management needs for Elsevier by providing the company with a flexible, core search and information retrieval solution that captures structured and unstructured data in a variety of formats.
"Elsevier is one of a growing number of companies that are finding FAST to be truly the only enterprise search provider that can provide a search solution with a platform approach that is as flexible and scalable as FAST Data Search," said John M. Lervik, FAST's chief executive officer. "We are pleased that Elsevier has selected FAST Data Search again for expanding and improving enterprise search capabilities, and look forward to serving Elsevier in the years to come."
