Google in talks with Simon Fuller

Google in talks with Simon Fuller Google is in currently in secret talks with music mogul Simon Fuller over a joint venture which could alter the way people watch television over the internet, the Observer reports.

The search engine provider has allegedly been communicating with the entrepreneur for around a year.

Fuller is a significant player in the entertainment world, having created the Spice Girls, managed football star David Beckham and been responsible for the hit show Pop Idol.

According to the publication, sources close to the television programme executive say the potential collaboration "could revolutionise the way entertainment and music are distributed".

The source stated: "It is a big idea on a global scale. It will change television in much the way iTunes changed the way music is disseminated."

Details of the possible deal, however, remain a closely guarded secret.

News of the talks may prompt rumours that Google's television market strategy will include original content from the search engine provider, making it a competitor to major broadcasters.

The reports of such a potential move by Google into the television industry come in the wake of other recent diversifications made by the company.

Last year, it launched Google Video, a pay-per-view video sharing and video search engine service that allows users to play uploaded videos directly from the Google Video website.

Through the service, users are able to view hit programmes, such as reality show Big Brother.
