In February, internet giant Google reaffirmed its position as the top internet property in Canada for the second month in a row, new research suggests.According to figures produced by comScore, the search engine provider saw just under 22.4 million unique visitors head to its sites over the month.
This represented more than Microsoft, its closest rival in the country for the 29-day period, which saw a total of around 22.2 million internet users visit its sites.
In a statement, comScore said: "Google sites maintained [their] number one position in the top 25 properties ranking for the second consecutive month, after first grabbing the top position in January."
Meanwhile, Yahoo! was found to be the third most popular internet property, with its sites experiencing nearly 16.2 million unique hits in February.
It was also noted that, despite February generally exhibiting lower visitation levels as a result of having fewer days than most months, tax sites did see an increase in hits as Canadians continued to prepare for the "tax season".
Indeed, such sites saw just over three million unique visitors over the period, compared to nearly 2.6 million in January. This represented an increase of 17 per cent.
Meanwhile, comScore figures released earlier this month revealed that, in the UK, the biggest gaining internet category over February was flowers, gifts and greetings cards, as Valentine's Day drove visits to such sites up by 28 per cent compared to January.
