Google has just announced the appointment of Dr. Larry Brilliant as the Executive Director of Google.org, which has been set up to administer Google's philanthropic activities.
Along with the Google's co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin it is said he will help to define the mission and strategic goals of the company's philanthropy.
Google is reported to have already set aside more than $7 million for investments and grants related to health, the environment, global poverty, and energy issues.
Dr. Brilliant career encompasses a wide range of previous experience in international health and development, as well as business and technology.
As a founder and director of The Seva Foundation, a member of the Policy Advisory Council at the University of California, and a member of the Strategic Advisory Group of Kleiner-Perkin's Pandemic and Bio-Defense Fund, the Google founders believe he will lead Google.org to greater prominence.

Sergey Brin said, "We hope that the contributions of Google.org may someday exceed those of Google itself in terms of overall world impact by ambitiously applying innovation and significant resources to the largest of the world's problems".
