Google remains most visited UK property Google, the world's leading search engine, maintained its status as Britain's most visited online property securing 27.4 million web users in April, according to new data.

Social networking sites were shown to have continued their growth as the Easter holiday drove web traffic, comScore's recent April traffic report revealed.

Google topped the audience ratings and was closely followed by Microsoft sites and eBay, which secured 27 million and 21.6 million visitors respectively.

The figures showed that nearly nine out of every ten people in Britain visited Google and MSN last month.

Social networking site Facebook's growing popularity was marked with it being the top gainer in site visits in April.

The site's rapid growth saw visits increase by 38 per cent for the second consecutive month to 3.7 million, representing an aggregate growth of 90 per cent for the last two months.

Bebo, another much-loved networking site, was also a top gainer, showing an increase in traffic of six per cent compared to March figures.

A statement by comScore suggested the data demonstrated "how social networking continues to increase in popularity in the UK".

"Photo sharing site Photobucket also represented a top gainer, up five per cent to 2.5 million visitors. Alloy, driven by photo-sharing site rockyou.com, was also up by four per cent versus March," it continued.

People looking for last-minute Easter holiday deals helped travel sites First Choice Holidays and Priceline.com to experience traffic increases of nine per cent and four per cent respectively.
