The competition will begin online, with programmers competing to be one of 500 competitors to make it into the second round. After a series of tests that would boggle the minds of most people, the 50 remaining contestants will be flown to Ireland's capital where they will fight it out to claim one of Google's big prizes. Google's prizes will include £21,000 in prize money but, more importantly to many, the top prizes include jobs at Google - the dream of many a young programmer.
Google's UK engineering site director said "Code Jam is one of the many ways we try and support engineering, programming and computer science communities around the world." Then going on to say, "This new European competition is one way for us to engage with smart people who enjoy solving problems."
This latest competition from the gargantuan search engine shows Google's commitment to stay at the top of their trade. By finding - and securing - the hot new talent in Europe's under-tapped resources, Google can aim to stay at the top of the heap across Europe and the world.
