Google and CNN.com have announced an agreement that enlists the search engine's AdSense advertising programme to deliver site-targeted advertising to CNN.com.Under the deal, the AdSense service places contextually relevant advertisements alongside CNN.com content.
Both small and large advertisers will be able to target the online news provider specifically and to connect with high-profile content and web traffic.
The terms of the deal specify that Google will serve as the exclusive provider of auction-based text advertisements throughout CNN.com.
David Payne, senior vice president and general manager of the news provider, commented: "At CNN.com, our mission is laser-focused on providing up-to-the-minute news and information to our users.
"Our new relationship with Google will deliver relevant ads to our users, enhancing their overall experience on CNN.com. We look forward to a successful partnership."
Director of strategic partnerships at Google Marc Leibowitz stated that the search engine is pleased to enhance the experience of CNN.com readers through its targeted placement of advertisements.
"By connecting CNN.com to our valuable base of advertisers, our AdSense program provides an effective and efficient way to monetise quality online content," a situation that will benefit CNN.com as well as readers and advertisers, he added.
CNN.com is an online news and information provider based in Atlanta and with offices worldwide.
Its parent company is Time Warner, a media and entertainment firm whose businesses include films, television networks, publishing, interactive services and cable systems.
