Google about to launch WiFi security service

Google has shown an increasing interest in monitoring your browsing habits to help make its search result better and more relevant, and has found a number of novel way to do exactly that. Amongst them are the Google toolbar, the Google web accelerator and Google's secret new wifi project.

It's still under wraps, but we can exclusively give you a sneak peek, and it gives a number of interesting insights into the directions Google is looking in. The service is basically a secure VPN layer for WiFi connections - in other words, a little bit extra privacy for users of increasing increasingly popular WiFi hotspots.

There are a few commercial players in this market already such as HotSpotVPN - Google will certainly ruffle a few feathers if, as usual, their service is free. So far Google haven't made any official announcement regarding the service or it's price tag.

It's still early stages - the service hasn't even been announced on Google labs ( http://labs.google.com ), but doesn't come as too much of a surprise to keep Google watchers - Google has been advertising for engineers with WiFi expertise for quite a while.
