Google Aids Hurricane Katrina Search

Search engine Google has joined the ranks of aid workers, volunteers and bloggers in an attempt to track down those still missing after the Hurricane Katrina disaster.

Hurricane Katrina People Search allows users to search for those who may still be missing, and search against sites that Google deems to be relevant to the disaster.

The new service comes at a time when the internet is becoming an increasingly effective tool at conveying news stories and messages from around the globe.

In the first instance, hundreds of survival stories filtered out from internet blogs located in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. Soon enough the bloggers rallied together, pointing their readers towards aid agencies and charities in an attempt to help the region recover from the disaster.
