Google CEO endorses Apple iPhone

Google CEO endorses Apple iPhone Google's chief executive officer Eric Schmidt has heaped praise on the Apple's highly anticipated iPhone, claiming it is ideal for Google's new hosted applications.

Apple board member Mr Schmidt explained that the iPhone, which is designed to fully incorporate Google's search engine capabilities as well as other applications, is a perfect platform for its services.

Speaking to an audience in Paris, Mr Schmidt said: "iPhone is a powerful new device and is going to be particularly good for the apps that Google is building.

"You should expect other announcements from the two companies over time."

He added that the new phone will have a special YouTube player, allowing users to download and watch clips on their mobile device, while Google's mapping services will also be utilised, giving consumers the ability to view satellite images of locations all over the world, wherever they are.

Much of the integration of Google's applications on the phone has been down to the Ajax web development technique - a native language for Web 2.0 technologies.

Using Ajax, it would be possible for companies to create their own applications for use on the iPhone and other mobile devices, without the need for complex coding.

And Mr Schmidt added that, although Google has been criticised for its lack of privacy, the search engine giant plans to tackle these issues with the advent of the iPhone. He said: "If people don't trust Google, then we've got a problem, because they are literally one click away from switching."
