A senior engineer at Google is leaving the search engine provider and moving to EMI Music, it has been revealed.Douglas Merrill, who was Google's vice president of engineering and has worked for the firm since 2003, is set to become president of digital at EMI.
Confirming the departure, Google spokesman Matt Furman said: "We are grateful for his time and we wish him the best of luck."
Before joining the internet giant, Mr Merrill had been senior vice president at investment firm Charles Schwab & Co.
His move away from Google comes shortly after it was revealed that Ethan Beard - who was director of social media at Google - and Sheryl Sandberg, former vice president of global online sales and operations at the firm, have also left.
Commenting on the exodus of senior personnel from Google, Scott Kessler, an equity analyst with Standard & Poor's, stated: "It is very difficult to preserve the same kind of culture and energy that Google had as a start-up," the New York Times reports.
He added: "It is increasingly difficult for Google to be able to keep all the great people it has hired over the years. These people have a wide variety of great options at their disposal and a number of those people are seizing them."
Meanwhile, Google stated that it has a "deep bench" of employees and works hard to grow leaders within the company.
