Google hits it big in Brazil and India

New comScore data has shown that Google's services are receiving a significant amount of attention in Brazil and India.

The New York Times reports that while users in the USA spend around nine per cent of their online time on Google's many services, India and Brazil have been singled out as particular fans of the Mountain View agency, with Brazil's users spending around 30 per cent of online time utilising a Google service, followed closely by India's 29 per cent.

Following these two Google fans is Ireland, although it sits at a more placid 16 per cent, with the global average of time spent on Google resting at 9.4 per cent. The sheer breadth of services offered by the Goliath, from its search results to the many uses of Google Maps, no doubt has much to do with the net time the company enjoys around the world.

According to the NYT, comScore's Andrew Lipsman accounts Google's popularity across the board of its services in Brazil and India to timing - Google was rolling out these services at the time that these two markets were beginning to see growth. He said: "Part of the explanation was that Google emerged onto the scene at the time these markets were developing.

"As Google became the default search engine, the brand extended to these other services."

Google possesses almost 90 per cent of Brazilian searches, a huge amount when considered with other search offerings on the market. Clearly, this is good news for The Goog - but does the revelation mean rivals like Micosoft will turn their attention to such markets and attempt to grab some for themselves?
