21 August 2007Google Local Search to assist Indian users
Search engine Google has launched two new products and an innovation platform for the Indian market.
Google Local Search allows users in India to search for information on local businesses and services, while the Google Local Business Centre enables companies to create a free listing on Google Local.
Both products are connected so that information posted through Google Local Business Centre is displayed for a relevant query on Google Local Search.
Meanwhile, the
search engine will showcase new innovations and developments to its Indian users through the Google India Labs platform.
The site will allow feedback to be given on the various products in development in Google offices around the world. The applications on display will be chosen according to their suitability for the Indian market.
"Our vision for India's 60th year of independence is to empower our Indian users by providing organised, easily accessible information and products which encourage the creation and consumption of locally relevant content," commented Dr Prasad Ram, head of Google R&D, India.
Earlier this month, Google India partnered with broadband firm Bharti Airtel Broadband & Telephone Services to offer services such as search, email and instant messaging through the Airtel
portal to its customers.
The deal also included the provision of applications such as Google Docs, Google Spreadsheets and the NetXpert web connection management tool to Airtel customers through the
portal.
