Google reader now available in different languages

Google reader now available in different languages The search engine giant Google has announced that its Google Reader service now supports a range of different languages.

Prior to this development, the blog and news site service was only available in English.

It now, however, also supports French, Italian, German, Spanish, Chinese (traditional and simplified), Korean and Japanese.

Product marketing manager for Google Kevin Systrom commented: "I started thinking about how news plays an increasingly important role across the world.

"Of course, blogs have also become an international phenomenon. They're not constrained by language or nationality - in fact, blogs have become an important way to bring rise to independent reporters and writers."

Also, there are increasing numbers of people who wish to read blogs in other languages, he added.

Mr Systrom also stated that Google is removing the "Labs" label from Google Reader.

Although just a "small textual change", this alteration demonstrates the search engine's commitment to make reading news sites and blogs even easier, he added.

Earlier this month, Google introduced a search function to its Reader service to allow users to input keywords to find items in their subscriptions.

It also allows people to search through other users' shared items, provided they have subscribed to them.

According to David Utter, a staff writer for WebProNews, the absence of a search function in the service had "been a glaring omission from Google's otherwise excellent newsfeed organiser".
