23 May 2007Google retains its number one search spot for April
Google retained its status as the dominant force in the US
search engine market, after Nielsen//NetRatings released its April figures.
The continuing popularity of Google's online search saw the group secure a total of 3.8 billion searches last month.
Yahoo! placed second, claiming just under 1.5 billion searches, followed by MSN in third with 0.6 billion.
Google's high
traffic figures represented a massive 42.1 per cent year-on-year growth, which gave it a 55.2 per cent share of total US searches for the month.
Yahoo! saw a positive yearly growth of 28.1 per cent, scooping a 21.9 per cent total share, while MSN saw figures rise by 7.4 per cent compared to 12 months ago, giving it a nine per cent market share.
Other notable movers and shakers included AOL Search, which claimed over 300,000 searches at a yearly growth of 6.1 per cent and a total market share of 5.4 per cent.
It eclipsed the 126,286 searches per month Ask.com secured, which saw its yearly growth dip by 2.3 per cent.
However, My Way Search's figures only reached a total of 26,814 monthly searches - representing a year-on-year fall of 81 per cent.
Google will be hoping its move towards a more universal search model can strengthen its position as the world's leading
search engine.
The company has also introduced an updated homepage design and new navigation features which it hopes will maintain its status as one of the globe's best-loved brands.
