21 May 2007Google Salesforce.com alliance rumoured
Google and Salesforce.com are reportedly discussing an alliance that will potentially give them an advantage over Microsoft.
The Wall Street Journal revealed that although Salesforce.com is not a particularly big company, it is one of the "fastest growing segments of the software market" and provides "customer relationship management (CRM) service to businesses worldwide".
The details of the potential partnership could be ironed out in the coming weeks, with a web-based service integrating some of Google's online services, including email and instant messaging, with Salesforce's CRM tools.
Google and Salesforce will be hoping their alliance can produce software solutions to rival Microsoft.
The integration of Google Apps, the company's web-delivered software, with Salesforce.com's CRM software is expected to take a lot of time and investment.
"The new partnership may look good on paper, but mashing together product offerings and marketing them to sophisticated corporate customers is much easier said than done. And, Microsoft has a big head start," revealed Douglas A. McIntyre on 24/7Wall Street.com.
Meanwhile, Google has revealed plans to digitise at least 800,000 Indian books and manuscripts that are currently held in Mysore University in Karnataka.
"Written in both papers and palm leaves, there are around 100,000 manuscripts in our library, some dating back to the eighth century," revealed J. Shashidhara Prasad, vice chancellor of the university.
"The effort is to restore and preserve this cultural heritage for effective dissemination of knowledge."
