It was recently revealed that an overwhelming majority of UK searchers preferred
Google whereas Stateside searchers tended to indulge a little more in alternative options, but it appears that one thing remains constant when it comes to things Google is good at: results.
This year's exploration by the American Customer Satisfaction Index brought the Mountain View king to the forefront once again as top dog when it comes to satisfactory search experiences, amassing a top score of 86 on the market share and customer satisfaction index, with rivals Microsoft,
Yahoo! and Ask.com trailing behind with scores of 75, 77 and 74 respectively.
Winning for the second year in a row - having been beaten in 2007 by one point by Yahoo! - Google scooped the top spot with a seemingly effortless search service, though at bigmouthmedia we're more than aware of how hard Google tries to deliver what matters.
CNet News reports that Larry Freed, the president and CEO of ForeSee Results, the survey's interpreter, said: "What's interesting is that Google has really set an expectation with consumers and they've done a good job living up to it."
However, all of the results scored fairly high on the index, meaning that Google isn't the only agency hitting the right buttons. Freed commented that this could be a result of customers continually being pleased by efficient
search engines when, in other industries, they may not be as used to getting what they want immediately and efficiently.
And, as much as a win this year could serve the Mountain View colossus well in the reputation department, the fresh challenger that comprises Microsoft Bing and Yahoo! search appears to be priming itself for a big battle this year - can Google's powerful brand hold out or will it need to step it up a notch to meet the new conglomerate?
