Internet giant Google has released a new and improved version of the suite of internet applications it offers on Apple's iPhone handset. The search engine provider, which only began offering the suite last month, revealed that it has streamlined the user interface and sped up the applications, making them easier to activate using the iPhone's touchscreen interface.
One specific example of the improvements implemented by Google involves Gmail. Now, new emails show up automatically in the inbox, just as they do in the standard internet version of the service.
Until the update, the application had required users to manually refresh to view new emails.
Another new feature enables users of the handset to access their iGoogle gadgets, allowing them to see gadgets they have selected - such as weather and news feeds - on their mobile phones.
Additionally, Google has introduced an auto-complete feature to speed up the process of composing emails, as well as a new calendar view that allows users to see a month's worth of appointments on one screen.
Commenting on the iPhone's enhancements, Joe Nordgaard, director of wireless consulting firm Spectral Advantage, stated: "Having frequent application improvements being made could help improve the relationship the consumer has with the mobile device as it did for PCs," Red Herring reports.
In a recent New York Times article, it was revealed that traffic to Google from the iPhone mobile device has reached impressive levels, only surpassed by traffic from the much more widely used Nokia-backed Symbian operating system.
