Google has now launched Google Video UK, in addition to the provision of Google Video for six other European countries. Google Video has been around for a while, but now Google has launched new versions for seven European countries: France, Germany, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain, and the UK.
Google Video lets people upload and share videos. Contributors - whether they be amateurs, movie makers, or large TV corporations can choose whether or not to charge for their content. Google makes money by charging advertisers in a similar way to the Google AdWords system, the adverts for which can be seen on Google's search engine result pages (SERPs). In the US, Google Video has already been a big hit and Google is currently looking into a method of providing video adverts.
Google Video UK will work by asking UK users to rate a video, using these ratings Google recommends the videos according to how they rank. Google has partnered with UK companies to seal deals on videos from archives held by companies such as ITN, Wimbledon video rights holder IMG Media, the Cousteau Society and Talkback Thames. Users from the UK visiting Google video will have a homepage featuring British video favourites. The Google Video UK homepage will also display choices of featured videos and recent videos as well as a search feature allowing the user to search all of the videos in Google Video UK's index.
Great products from Google, such as Google video and the powerful Google Earth see Google as a top media provider as well as being the top company in search. Some may think that Google can be seen to be moving away from its focus on search, but this author thinks that these are great products from Google and that the revenue produced will help Google stay top of the search pile, and so keep providing us with the best search engine results for our queries.
