While the hype for
Google+ builds, Mountain View's mad men have quietly launched Mobilize - a free mobile tool that will help SMEs get m-commerce ready by creating high-quality mobile sites or landing pages, in seconds, without the need for coding.
According to
Brand Republic, Google's mobile advertising sales director Ian Carrington - Mountain View's very own Don Draper - has unveiled that Mobilize will soon be available to small to medium sized enterprises in the UK.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Mountain View's Think Mobile event in London, Carrington said that the tool would soon be the focus of a web-wide rollout offering advertisers and SMEs a range of customisable templates for mobile sites that come integrated into
Google Analytics.
"Mobile sites are still a barrier [to] m-commerce. We're hoping to help businesses take advantage of this mobile opportunity with the new tool," he said.
The Mountain View man also emphasised that businesses needed to get mobile-ready in a bid to cash-in on m-commerce which is set to be fuelled by soaring global smartphone adoption levels and the
nationwide roll-out of super-fast broadband.
According to Carrington, only 17 per cent of British businesses have mobile ready sites - even though Blighty's smartphone adoption levels are up 38 per cent year-on-year.
The Google guy also gave a nod to the growing purchasing-power of the typical smartphone user, revealing that 28 per cent of British smartphone users have already made a purchase on their mobiles, while 24 per cent actively use their phone in-store to compare product prices and specs.
