It has long been rumoured that Google is set to launch its own gPhone and the speculation has now reached new heights.Bloggers across the world are expressing their belief that the search engine giant is planning to release the product in the near future.
The Mercury News reports that a number of credible bloggers have suggested that Google is developing software around a Linux-based operating system that could be unveiled some time in early September.
Engadget wrote: "From what we've heard, Google isn't necessarily working on hardware of its own, but is definitely working with OEMs and ODMs to get them to put the gPhone operating system on upcoming devices."
Blogger Mark Hopkins, who claims to have access to a Google inside source, also supports the speculation, commenting: "My source reassured me there is a gPhone."
According to Mr Hopkins, the Google applications suite will play a significant role in the usability of the gPhone, which, he says, is not concerned with beating off competition from the recently launched iPhone.
Based on comments from the insider, the phone is set to feature integrated GPS and Google maps, he added.
Mr Hopkins also suggested that it is probable that the new handset will be released sometime in the next two weeks.
The Wall Street Journal recently reported that the search engine had invested millions of pounds in the gPhone, which it hopes will be produced by a number of manufacturers.
