Google pagerank (PR) is a system implemented by Google late last year, to guage the importance, and relevance of a site, as far as Google is concerned.
The SEO community has gone crazy for the idea, with webmasters all but jumping through hoops to get their rank bumped up a notch on the world's most popular search index.
And with almost 2.5 billion pages listed on Google, it's no mean feat to beat the competition.
Google ranks sites from 0-10, with only a handful of sites getting a PR 10, not surprisingly, Google is one of them, along with Yahoo!, Microsoft and the AOL Time Warners ODP.
Recently a company with a Google PR 8 started advertising to trade links from their site, for $99
The word in the SEO community however, shows that once again, ethical tactics should prevail. After all, it's not in Google's interest for their toolbar to be misused like this, and it's highly unlikely to increase search relevancy and satisfaction.
But it does reinforce what we always recommend to clients. Take the time to create relationships with owners of related, high quality sites. With the implementation of our recommendations, our clients do immensely well on Google.
