Kylie launches social network platform

Kylie launches social network platform Australian singer Kylie Minogue has entered the world of online social networking with the launch of her own site, named Kylie Konnect.

Created by New Visions Mobile in collaboration with Kylie's record label Parlophone, the site is one of the first of its kind to be launched by a celebrity.

It allows users to create personal profiles, make friends with fellow fans, send messages to people and upload pictures.

Kylie is also set to add her own profile to the site, which will include news concerning the artist and links for those wishing to download her tracks

Head of digital at Parlophone Dan Duncombe commented: "Kylie Konnect is for new and old fans alike; they can link directly to Kylie's profile, leave their blog, upload photos and share their experiences with other Kylie fans."

The site will also provide fans with access to exclusive behind the scenes footage and opportunities to win prizes that "money can't buy", he added.

New Visions Mobile believe that the service is a more flexible model than rivals such as Facebook and MySpace because it enables fans to register for the site on their mobile phones.

Julia McNally, director of New Visions Mobile, commented: "Whilst other social networking sites allow fans to create their own profiles online, side loading images and video from their phones to the PC, [our application] allows users to create and manage their pages directly from their mobile handset."

The site was launched to coincide with the release of Kylie's new single 2 Hearts.
