18 July 2007Lycos adds Delia Online to portfolio

In a bid to ensnare rich web users who prove to be receptive to advertising,
Lycos has announced the addition of Delia Online to its growing sales network portfolio.
Delia Online is a website which showcases the recipes and tips offered by celebrity chef and majority shareholder of Norwich City football club, Delia Smith.
This website joins the search engine's other cookery site acquisitions and is designed to catch the eye of firms such as Masterfoods and Procter & Gamble, which have increased their advertising spends recently on niche websites like Delia Online.
Lycos can already lay claim to sites such as contactmusic.com, iMDB and about.com and according to New Media Age, Roland Schaber, managing director of UK sales for
Lycos, has expressed his desire to see the
search engine become something of a "specialist" in terms of a "general interest portal".
Mr Schaber continued to state: "By putting content from partner sites on our site, which then directs people to the partner, we were able to develop specialisms which we could sell to agencies and advertisers."
Back in May 2007, Holger Thiemann at Lycos said that the search engine had developed a
bespoke web browser toolbar for internet users which could then be downloaded by other web users.
He added: "For both companies and private users, communication with customers and friends is becoming easier, so in the age of Web 2.0 and social networks, our own communities have never been more important."
