Microsoft has provided an insight into the future of personal computing, by offering Windows users a glimpse into what they can expect from the company's next operating system.
A cached version of a Microsoft blog post titled '
What's in store for the next Windows?' offered a taste of what might be involved in the successor to Windows 7, which is being tentatively called Windows.next.
The Microsoft blogger explained: "The minimum that folks can take for granted is that the next version will be something complet[e]ly different from what folks usually expect of Windows - I am simply impressed with the process that Steven [Sinofsky] has set up to listen to our customers needs and wants and get a team together than can make it happen.
"To actually bring together dozens and dozens of teams across Microsoft to come up with a vision for Windows.next is a process that is surreal! The themes that have been floated truly reflect what people have been looking for years and it will change the way people think about PCs and the way they use them. It is the future of PCs..."
According to InfoWorld, Microsoft executives when asked said they were not familiar with the blog post in question. At Thursday's Microsoft Global High-Tech Summit 2010 meeting held in Santa Clara, California, the company's director of US High Tech & Electronics, Drew Gude, said: "I don't know what the blog entails, but I am certain we're continuously innovating [with] with Windows."
The Microsoft blogger also revealed that the company had succeeded in
restoring its reputation with Windows 7, following mixed response to its predecessor Windows Vista.
InfoWorld's Randall C. Kennedy previously published his own predictions for what might be in store for Windows 8, which included the service being strictly 64-bit and making increased use of Microsoft's Live Mesh cloud.
