30 March 2007Microsoft reveals 'Deepfish'

Microsoft Live Labs has announced details of its new web browser for smartphones, aimed at making the browsing of full-sized web pages faster and easier.
Using technology borrowed from Sea Dragon, the engine behind Photosynth, the new technology, entitled Deepfish, will allow mobile web browsers to access web pages designed for desktop computers and then zoom in on the part of the page they want to click on or read in detail.
While at present the majority of internet-capable mobile phones allow access to only scaled-down versions of websites, the development of Deepfish comes as software firms work towards expanding the web-capabilities of mobile technology.
"Think about your mobile browsing experience today," said Gary William Flake, director of Microsoft Live Labs.
"It's often less than intuitive, the pages don't look like what you've come to expect on the desktop and it takes a long time for a page to load.
"Deepfish aims to solve that problem."
The new technology will run on Windows Mobile 5.0+Pocket PC and smartphone devices and will be free for users to download, Microsoft has confirmed.
Though Deepfish remains in the early stages of development, Microsoft has made a preview of the new technology available for download through its Live Labs website.
