A new survey from Websense highlights the importance of checking your new domain's history
It found that over 1,500 mainstream websites have changed to adult content sites over last six months.
In addition, more than 3,000 pornographic websites changed to carry mainstream content.
The reason for the increase in owner changes seems likely to be the high turnover of domain names that has been seen since domain warehousers realised thet the bottom had fallen out of that side of the market.
And the issue highlights the importance of checking out the history of your domain before registering.
Buying a domain that is listed by
search engines as a pornographic site or, possibly worse, has been barred from search engines due to adult content could seriosly hamper a site's online success and be highly brand damaging.
