17 October 2006MSN's LinkFromDomain command launched!
MSN Live Search has released a new command, the LinkFromDomain command which allows users to search which sites a particular domain links to.
So what does this new command do? The LinkFromDomain command basically does what it says on the tin. It lets you see all the links pointing
from a particular domain, and the domains they are pointing to.
So how can we use the brand new LinkFromDomain command most effectively?
Using a combination of the LinkDomain and the brand new LinkFromDomain command we can now investigate the following variations on linking themes:
- Who links to a site: LinkDomain:Website.com
- Who a site links to: LinkFromDomain:Website.com
We can also combine the new LinkFromDomain command with other commands to find out more specific information on sites and their linking practices.
Using the
Site:website.com command, combined with the LinkFromDomain command can now tell us where, from domain A, are the destinations of the links on domain B. So, lets try an example using bigmouthmedia.com and
Google.com
The command:
site:google.com linkfromdomain:bigmouthmedia.com , tells us the pages on Google.com that Bigmouthmedia links out to.
And testing the new LinkFromDomain command for
Google, MSN Live, and
Yahoo! with bigmouthmedia.com got the following results:
- google.com - 10,898,263
- yahoo.com - 5,122,427
- live.com - 7,841
It is always interesting when a new command comes out and it allows us to look at site information, particular page information, who they link to, and who links to them in a quick and easy way. It will be interesting to see what new commands will come out next... Although the less than enjoyable experiences to be encountered when trying to query subdomains with the current tool (allied with past issues with search operator commands) suggests that there will always be room for improvement in existing commands as well.
