Musicmatch Jukebox cut by Yahoo!

Musicmatch Jukebox cut by Yahoo! Yahoo! has announced plans to cut its Musicmatch Jukebox software, with the programme no longer offering its services - including On Demand, Radio Gold and Music Store - from August 31st onwards.

The decision to discontinue distribution of Musicmatch and encourage users to switch to Yahoo! Music Jukebox and Yahoo Music Unlimited services bears similarities to the way the company is disbanding Yahoo! Photos.

"As you may have heard, Musicmatch is now part of the Yahoo! Music family," Yahoo! said. "The same team that brought you Musicmatch products and services over the years has been working hard to bring you the next generation of world-class music services."

Removal of the Musicmatch programme has led Yahoo! to offer users the chance to switch to Yahoo! Music Unlimited and transfer over any time remaining on their subscription, their on demand playlists, account information and remaining store credit they have.

"If you're not satisfied with Yahoo! Music Unlimited you can cancel at anytime, however you will not receive a refund for the current subscription term," Yahoo! said.

"You will continue to have access to your account through the end of the agreed-upon term and your subscription will simply not renew."

Meanwhile, Yahoo! is celebrating a victory over dominant search market rival Google, after comScore's recent Asia-Pacific study showed it was the most popular website in Japan, India, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.
