MySpace's has reaffirmed its position as the number one social networking site in the UK by claiming that more than 10 million users are visiting its site each month, according to BBC News.
Independent monitoring from Nielsen//Net Ratings revealed that although, MySpace secured 6.5 million unique visits in Britain in May, the gap between itself and rival Facebook was closing.
Nielsen revealed in May that Facebook was growing at 19 times the rate of MySpace - 523 per cent compared to 28 per cent.
But the News Corp-owned social site's recent claims might suggest that the gap between MySpace and its rivals is still quite substantial.
MySpace's most popular page is dedicated to Aids charity 'Project Red', followed by Damon Albarn's band Gorillaz's page and Welsh rockers Bullet For My Valentine.
Jamie Kantrowitz, senior vice president marketing and content at MySpace Europe, said: "More than 10 million people in the UK are using MySpace to live their lives online.
"The fact the UK's top three MySpace profiles are a charitable campaign, a major pop group and an indie rock band shows the diversity of the MySpace community."
Meanwhile, Nielsen//Net Ratings revealed recently that it plans to add both 'Total Minutes' and 'Total Sessions' metrics to its internet audience measurement service.
Scott Ross, director, product marketing for the NetView service, said: "Total Minutes is the best engagement metric in this initial stage of Web 2.0 development, not only because it ensures fair measurement of websites using RIA and streaming media, but also of web environments that have never been well-served by the page view, such as online gaming and internet applications."
