Social networking site MySpace is set to follow in the footsteps of rival Facebook and introduce a so called 'news feeds' feature within the next two months, Reuters reports.Speaking at a Reuters Media Summit, Peter Levinsohn, president of MySpace's parent company Fox Interactive Media, stated: "The concept of a news feed is something we are very focused on and we'll be well down the path in the next 30 to 45 days."
The feeds, which have been available for some time on Facebook, will alert users of the site to what their friends and colleagues are doing.
On Facebook, they provide people with a chronological list of recent actions taken by their associates, including changes made to their profiles, relationship updates and other pieces of information.
According to Caroline McCarthy of CNET News, although originally viewed by many as "invasive and stalkerish", the news feed "is now considered by many to be one of Facebook's chief innovations".
Mr Levinsohn also announced that MySpace is to start allowing its members to express different versions of themselves by creating more than one profile. For example, it will be possible to create one persona for work and another for friends.
He stated that the new feature will enable users to "express [themselves] in all those different segments".
Commenting on the proposed updates to the site, Ms McCarthy stated: "MySpace, to put it bluntly, is playing catch-up.
"It still leads the US social networking market in overall membership and traffic, but has come under fire for everything from design to usability to underlying architecture."
