17 June 2002Neck and Neck between Fast and Google in the Search Engine Wars

Fast, the search product with origins at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology has passed the 2 Billion Web Pages landmark. While the index has been criticised for attaching less relevancy in the top results than
Google, it does have other strengths, in particular the fact that it does not rely on body text for keywords, therefore it does not produce any of the strange, irrelevant results often discovered when using long phrases on
Google.
No doubt, as both indices mature and develop, we'll see a distinct up-shift in improvements for the searcher before long.
