Video search engines are nothing new. Most people are already familiar with sites such as Blinkx and Truveo, and search engines Google and Yahoo! also have their own video search capabilities. However, a new service is about to be launched that is that little bit different - it will be available solely on mobile phones. Veveo, a Massachusetts based company, aims to simplify access to web video content from internet connected devices with their new vTap service, which launches on September 10th.
vTap is a new web video service for mobile devices that lets you search, browse and view web videos on your mobile phone. Unlike other mobile search services, which often return only a small sampling of results, vTap will search sources from all over the internet to bring the user a much larger selection of videos ready to play on their mobile phone.
CEO Murali Aravamudan told Rafe Needleman at Webware that the concept behind the new service is that it uses metadata to create its video index, as opposed to the actual audio or video content of the files.
One unique aspect of the service is that it uses a character-based incremental search, allowing you to search for a video after entering only a few letters. Search results will be displayed after every letter is typed, meaning users have to put in minimum effort to quickly find the videos they are looking for. This unique search style also gives users the added benefit of being able to search for videos without having to know the full name or correct spelling of the title.
