New Apple iMac features tie-ins with Google

New Apple iMac features tie-ins with Google Apple has announced this week that new applications on the latest iMacs will tie-in with search engine giant Google.

The new all-in-one iMac was revealed by Apple CEO Steve Jobs at a press conference at Apple's Cupertino headquarters, California, earlier this week. The latest iMac line features slimmer 20 and 24-inch aluminium designs, with glossy screens and a new ultra-thin Bluetooth and wired keyboard. They also announced a lower starting price of $1,199 (20 inch model).

Among the new developments to the popular iMac include an application called iLife '08, which features new and improved versions of iPhoto and iMovie. The new application allows users to store and share digital photos and videos on the .Mac Web Gallery. Apple's internet service .Mac currently has around 1.7 million subscribers and has recently increased its online storage limit from 1GB to 10GB.

Apple also announced that users will be able to upload videos directly from .Mac to the video sharing site YouTube, which was bought by the search engine Google in October 2006 for $1.65 billion.

Jobs was quoted by BusinessWeek as saying: "This stuff is going to be really interesting on YouTube. We are working closely with Google. They have a lot of great technologies that we want to tie in with our applications."

This close relationship with Google is hoped to create a larger internet presence for Apple. Also, along with this tie-in with the search engine, the increase in online storage means execs expect big growth from the .Mac subscription site.
