28 April 2005News revamp for both Yahoo and Google
Almost certainly it is no coincidence that both
Yahoo! and
Google have chosen the same day to introduce new features on both of their respective News home pages.
Yahoo have revamped the look and feel of their page, and added a number of interesting features. New tab buttons allow users to compare the same headlines from a number of sources, as well as add new news sources to each of their news themes. In addition, handy keyword links offer shortcuts to related stories.
Meanwhile Google has quietly introduced a new tool on their popular Google News offering.Neatly tucked into the top right hand corner of the screen is a discreet "Customise this page" button. When opened, it allow the user to rearrange, customise and delete the different news streams to their own preference, in a similar way to Yahoo's existing "My Yahoo" offering.
The move is another salvo in what appears to be an escalating conflict between
Yahoo and Google to match each others features like for like. Other recent skermishes include personal search histories, local search and rival desktop search tools.
