23 August 2007New video game search engine launched

GenieKnowsGames.com is a new
search engine created by GenieKnows.com, which is dedicated to indexing and serving websites and webpages specifically about video games.
When a search is carried out on the engine, a 'Category List' is displayed on the left hand side of the results, which users can use to filter the returned results. Searchers can choose from sections such as 'Articles and Reviews' and 'Cheats and Guides', as well as the not so common 'Community' and 'Developers' links.
The 'Community' option provides users with links to gaming forums and portals while the 'Developers' filter tries to separate stories relating to software publishers rather than to specific games. There is also a 'Blogs and News' filter option which returns the most up to date results from a number of popular gaming blogs and news sites.
Mark Harper, vice-president of Strategic Relations at the parent company of GenieKnows.com, IT Interactive Services Inc., explained why they wanted to develop the new search engine:
"Our programmers were frustrated with other
search engines where a search term like NBA all star would produce 100 sports stories on Kobe Bryant. With our technology, you get the game-related results you're looking for, like whether Nintendo Wii will let you shoot fadeaways in your living room".
Video games are a fast-growing industry in the United States with over 50% of US households owning a games console. As a result video game search engines are growing in importance as they will allow these people to find exactly what they are looking for quickly.
GenieKnowsGames.com will have stiff competition in the form of Wazap, a video game search engine that was launched in the United States over a year ago. Since its launch, Wazap has evolved to feature user-interaction, allowing users to comment and evaluate search results. This approach allows the search engine to return much more accurate and tailored results to gamers on future searches.
