We may only be at the end of the second month of the year, newsletter fans, but already 2008 has been a jam-packed year in search.
The last seven days have seen Google make some crucial changes to its advertising realm, with the launch of Google AdSense for video and the announcement that Google will be more strictly enforcing its AdWords URL policy from April 1 2008.
An earnings report from 2007 has also revealed that Google generated a massive $2.53bn in UK advertising sales last year - second only to ITV.
However, the heated debate surrounding Microsoft's bid for Yahoo! is simply refusing to settle. Last week, Bill Gates declared that Microsoft's bid for Yahoo! is fair, in spite of the protestations of some of Yahoo!'s shareholders. Moreover, recent reports have been circulating that, despite having rejected the takeover two weeks ago, many of Yahoo!'s shareholders are keen to accept Microsoft's offer.
Nevertheless, in the midst of the furore, Yahoo! is trying to continue business as usual. Today, for instance, sees the beta release of Yahoo! Buzz, a Digg-like news aggregator that lets user vote on stories.
In other news, Google announced the first ten teams in the Lunar X Prize, a competition to build a robotic rover capable of landing on the moon that was first announced by the search engine last September. Google has also revealed its involvement in a consortium to build a new trans-Pacific cable running between California and Japan - proof of the search giant's world-leading ambitions to provide global internet users with greater connectivity.
And as a version of popular business social network LinkedIn is to be released on mobile phones, it looks like mobile search is finally getting the recognition it deserves. So as you settle down to another busy afternoon in the office, take a break with the bigmouthmedia newsletter - bringing you the best in search each week!
