Another social makeover re-styles the web this autumn

The seasons change quickly in the online sphere, so making sure your sites are up to scratch necessitates keeping a close eye on ever changing styles. Luckily for the search stars at the top, they have a keen grasp of net trends and this week saw re-branded Bing and go getters Google show us their social stripes as both revealed new social ties.

Microsoft started us all a-twittering with the news that Bing would be integrating Twitter and Facebook updates into its search results. Never one to be left behind, Google has just announced Google Social Search, a new innovation which highlights relevant results generated by friends at the bottom of search result pages.

Social media site MySpace has also been considering a new direction this week, with increasing competition from social media darlings such as Facebook and Twitter, MySpace has revealed a musical makeover and plans to position itself as a provider going forward.

Elsewhere on the web, Yahoo! is sitting pretty with the news that its third quarter profits exceeded expectations while a number of top players, including Google, Facebook and Twitter CEOs, took the opportunity to sign a net neutrality agreement this week.

The web itself is primed to receive some cosmetic attention in the coming months, as the online world looks set to expand to accept non-Latin web addresses - the biggest change to hit the appearance of the internet in a long time. Google and Microsoft could also be revamping perceptions by investing in wind power in the UK.

In other news, a sophisticated hack struck the Guardian jobs site this week and reminded many of seemingly silent security threats while antivirus vendor AVG caused problems for affiliate site Linkshare when it started to block clicks on its affiliate network.

Staying fit, healthy and ahead of the game boosts anyone's appearance, whether they are on the net or not, so maybe it shouldn't come as a surprise that the NHS is officially adopting the Nintendo Wii Fit Plus.
