Search engine provider Google has entered into an agreement with Nokia to integrate its services into the mobile phone maker's search application. In an announcement made at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the two firms confirmed the deal, under which Google will be added to the list of search engines accessible to consumers from Nokia handsets.
The Finnish company already has similar agreements in place with Yahoo! and Microsoft, as well as local deals with Yandex in Russia and Baidu in China.
Initially, the application integration will be rolled out on selected Nokia devices, including the Nokia N96, Nokia 6210 Navigator and Nokia N78.
Eventually, however, it will reach a total of 40 models in 100 countries across the globe.
Commenting on the deal, Vic Gundotra, Google's vice president of engineering and products for mobile, stated: "Adding Google to Nokia Search provides mobile users with [a] fast, relevant and comprehensive search experience that will be familiar to the people who use Google to search the web from their desktop."
Meanwhile, Ilkka Raiskinen, vice president of software and services at Nokia, added: "This integration allows our consumers the ability to use the innovative search technologies, which have made Google almost synonymous with internet search."
Google and Nokia have collaborated in a number of ways in the past, with some of Nokia's handsets supporting the Google-owned video sharing site YouTube, for example.
