Nokia has unveiled a range of new phones, including its flagship model, the N9. The most striking feature of the phone is the 'all screen' design, with a swipe gesture replacing a 'home' button and a touchscreen providing interaction for launching apps, typing text and more..
The body of the phone is precision machined from a single block of polycarbonate and features a curved-glass front. In addition, the 3.9-inch AMOLED screen has been made from scratch-proof glass.
Nokia's head of design Marko Ahtisaari believes the technology the N9 contains will reflect in the company's future output: "The details that make the Nokia N9 unique - the industrial design, the all-screen user experience, and the expressive Qt framework for developers - will evolve in future Nokia products."
There has been, however, no demonstration of any new handset using the Windows 7 operating system. These models will be released at the end of the year, according to Nokia.
"Earlier this year, we outlined a comprehensive strategy to change our course. Innovation is at the heart of our strategy, and today we took important steps to demonstrate a new pace of innovation at Nokia. It's the beginning of a new era for Nokia," chief executive Stephen Elop said.
The N9 also features 64GB of storage, Nokia's own turn-by-turn navigation software and an 8 megapixel camera. No prices for the N9 have been released.
Nokia also released the more affordable C2-02, C2-03 and C2-06 using Symbian Series 40. They include dual- and single-SIM options, popular in emerging markets. The phones each feature touchscreen and keypad options.
