Online Ad Spend to Double by 2009

A new report commissioned by Jupiter Research predicts that online advertising in the US is set to double by 2009. The report anticipates that gross online advertising expenditure will grow to $16.1 billion (£8.8 bn) within the next five years.

Figures for this year reveal a 27% increase in internet advertising resulting in an expenditure of $8.4 bn. The majority of this figure is distributed through paid listings and banner ads. The report does not draw upon contextual listings such as Google AdSense in its search forecast and attributes the growth in online ad spending to increased sophistication in internet marketing and the exponential growth in accurate measurement and tracking tools.
