A new report by eMarketer predicts that online advertising expenditure is set to reach an all time high at by the end of this year. The report centres on Internet advertising expenditure in the US and predicts a $9.1 billion peak this year, an increase of more than $1 billion on the previous high set in 2000. The report also predicts that the figure will exceed $11 billion by the end of 2005, the fifth year in a row that double figure growth will have been recorded.
The eMarketer report follows similar reports by Jupiter and the Internet Advertising Board (IAB) which predict continued increase in the prominence the Internet in the advertising mix. Unlike the other reports, eMarketer anticipate that the increase in online ad expenditure will come at he expense of traditional mediums such as TV and print advertising.
